This is a new series, so there is a bit of getting oriented to new characters at first while the story sets up. Once it got going, I found the book hard to put down; it ended leaving me wanting more.I don't do recaps or summaries, on the grounds that everyone else has already done them, but will leave it at: the characters are likable, human, fallible and make good company while the mystery unfolds. No hardcore suspense but plenty of the kinder variety that keeps you going. The book does have some fairly graphic scenes; it is not a sanitized cozy at all.Few if any typos and no annoying word usages/misusages. Many don't care about the latter, but they are a deal breaker for me and I wish more reviewers would flag them.Jameson never disappoints. She's a good writer with a sense of action--never overdone--and of story, place and character.Highly recommend for fans of intelligent cozies, light action, village mysteries and southern England coastal settings.The book could have been longer.
